Neurologists still cannot agree on whether various vitamin supplements can improve brain function and memory. However, a light Mediterranean diet is proven to benefit the good functioning of our brain. That means plenty of quality fish, preferably fatty ones rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon or tuna. A super important weapon is leafy vegetables.
A sufficient amount of dark green leafy vegetables, which contain lutein in combination with healthy olive oil, is a feast for the brain, but also chlorophyll. The typical green pigment of leafy vegetables acts as an excellent cleanser of our blood from free radicals, molds, or yeasts and strengthens our immune system. On the contrary, we harm ourselves with trans-fatty acids, excessive consumption of processed meats, and palm oil. These foods can affect receptors in cells that respond to the hormone insulin and cause their resistance.
For good brain function and memory, visit your favorite Spanish or Greek restaurant more often and consume plenty of green salads and dark leafy vegetables at home. And if you don’t eat fish, that’s okay. In avocados, eggs, and especially in nuts and perhaps sunflower and pumpkin seeds, you will find plenty of nutrients for the brain.
